SSMU Obtained Drug Manufacturing License
SSMU, the first flagship medical university in Russia, obtained the Minpromtorg (Ministry of Industry and Trade) license for medication manufacturing. Now SSMU will be able to manufacture drugs for clinical trials.
Prof. Olga S. Kobyakova, the rector of Siberian State Medical University, emphasized that it’s uncommon for universities to obtain a license for the production of medicines; until now only pharmaceutical companies could produce medication for clinical trials.
"We became the first and so far the only medical university in Russia, which has obtained such document. This is an enormous breakthrough for our university and scientific projects we are working on, as well as for colleagues from Tomsk universities implementing projects in pharmaceuticals industry. Now we can independently produce medicines for our own needs. In addition, the license is extremely important for establishing cooperation with pharmaceutical companies! ", said prof. Olga Kobyakova. She added that the license will significantly advance the implementation of pharmaceutical projects performed at SSMU.
"Obtaining a license for manufacturing drugs gives us great advantages, because many organizations that develop new drugs have a need for the production of drug samples for clinical trials, but their production on the basis of pharmaceutical enterprises is often associated with great technological and organizational obstacles”, said Olga Kobyakova.
"Obtaining a license is a great achievement of SSMU team working in the Center for technology adoption under the supervision of Artem Guriev," the rector of the university notes.
The Center for technology adoption already receives orders from research centers and laboratories in Tomsk, Novosibirsk and other Russian cities to produce drug prototypes for clinical trials.
