SSMU included in Project to Export Russian Education
Siberian State Medical University (SSMU) has been included in the list of universities selected by the government to export Russian education. All in all, there are 39 universities that will be the first to implement the programs assigned by the project.
“The fact that the Ministry of Education and Science has selected three Tomsk universities says about the importance and significance of our region in terms of the quality of education”. As for our university, I want to note that there are only two medical universities on the list: SSMU and the First Moscow State Medical University. Since 2015 we have been actively working with high school graduates from far-abroad countries. Certainly, medical education is in higher demand in the world as compared to other kinds of education. SSMU is highly attractive for students from India, China, African countries because of relatively low tuition fees and the quality of education. Our task is to provide students with proper education in English. Those international students who are studying at SSMU now give only positive feedback”, Olga Kobyakova, SSMU rector says.
Export of education is aimed to increase the attractiveness and competitiveness of Russian education on the international market and thereby increase the number of international high school graduates and online course participants. Thus, SSMU will be among the first to introduce programs on export of education, and in 2021 other Russian universities will adopt these practices.
It is necessary to note, in 2017 SSMU is going to enroll 170 international students. Last year the university enrolled 60 students. The classes will be conducted in English and Russian (bilingual program). For the first time school graduates from Ecuador, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Albania, Cameroon and Afghanistan will study at SSMU at the invitation of Rossotrudnichestvo.
