SSMU is one of the world's leading clinical research centers for type 2 diabetes

Siberian State Medical University is among the world’s best centers in the quality of clinical research for type 2 diabetes. SSMU was awarded a gold certificate at Global Study Symposium – an international meeting of researchers which took place in Rome. The scientists discussed the University’s experience in clinical research and considered possible opportunities for future cooperation.

The research on type 2 diabetes is performed by the team of SSMU endocrinologists: Oksana Oleinik, Maria Koshmeleva and Marina Rotkank. The supervisor of the study is Professor Julia Samoilova. The study also involves scientists from other countries such as India, Malaysia and the United Kingdom.

The research is conducted on the basis of University’s multidisciplinary clinics and clinical divisions fitted with modern medical equipment and diagnostic tools.  All of this allows us to conduct research in accordance with international quality standards ", - explained Professor Julia Samoilova, head of the SSMU Clinical Research Center.

The University has been conducting clinical research since 2002 and now is eligible to carry out all phases (I-IV) of clinical studies as well as medical device clinical trials. Among the partners in the field of clinical research are the main Russian and foreign pharmaceutical companies and research organizations: Worldwide Clinical Trials, GlaxoSmithKlein Trading, Pfizer, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Merck Sharp & Dohme Idea Inc. (MSD), Novo Nordisk, Sanofi, Generium, Pharmstandard, Ufa Vita and others. There are more than 25 principal investigators with the average experience of more than 20 years currently working at SSMU.

SSMU is the first university in Russia to be accredited by Skolkovo Technology Park to conduct clinical research (2015), and the only University, except for universities in Moscow and St. Petersburg, which carries out clinical trials to test new treatments.
